It’s just about creating the illusion with more height and less bulk. This can be amazing when you discover this by yourself. Yeah, you can’t change your actual height but you can change the way people see you by changing the way you dress up.
Here are Fashion Tips and Tricks to make a Petite Woman look better:
Vertical Line Clothes
If you are short, vertical lines will draw the eyes of the person seeing you up and down rather than side to side. As a result, you will look leaner and longer. It doesn’t necessarily need to be stripe, you can use vertical seam lines, fashion details that appear vertical, or vertical panel of fabric. Simple vertical lines will do. You do not need to overdo it.
Straight Leg Pants
Straight leg jeans or trouser will create a vertical illusion on your legs. Avoid pants with cuffs, bulky pockets, or pleats. Cropped pants will make your legs look shorter too so you may as well avoid them. Choose jeans with dark color too because light colors like stonewashed blue denim will make you look bulky. The dark wash jeans will create and illusion of thinner legs which makes your legs looks longer too.
Say No to Minis
Miniskirts and mini dresses makes women with long and slender legs look great but I’m sorry to tell you they don’t have the same effect for petite women like us. The miniskirts’ hem when worn by petite women falls across the thickest part of the thigh which makes it very noticeable therefore makes the short legs look even shorter. Wear skirts just a little bit above the knee but not skirts to the length of your calves nether because it has the same effect of the cropped pants creating an illusion of shorter legs. It’s either above the knee or ankle level skirts/dresses.
V-Shaped Neckline
Wearing dresses, jackets, blouses with a v-shaped neckline will create an illusion that you have a longer neck which will make you look taller. So, this is a good aid in adding to the illusion of your height.
Narrow Belts
Match your outfit with a slim belt, this will accentuate your smallest part and will create an illusion of height that you want to achieve. Avoid the wide or contrasting belts because they will cut your figure in half and will break the vertical illusion.
Dress in One Color
Try to dress from top to bottom with one color if possible. Don’t use red tops, blue shorts, red tights, and blue shoes. This will just cut you into small pieces. You can match your black dress with black tights and black boots. This will create a vertical illusion from head to toe. It’s called monochromatic dressing. It presents one coherent visual image to the eyes of the people that sees you and it’s a vertical image…making you look taller. To avoid being in a dull color, you can tweak it by putting a colorful scarf next to your face.
Clothes that fit Well
If you wear clothes your size, it will make a difference. Lose garments will make you look you’re downing with your own clothes. Try to avoid clothes with lots of design because all the extra fabric makes you look heavier and shorter. If you wear a winter outfit, look for thin wools because this will look better on you.
Avoid Carrying Over Sized Bags
Big bags will overwhelm petite women. Choose medium size bags to be in proportion to you small frame.
Ever Dearest High Heels
Of course short women wants to add some inches to their actual height and high heel shoes is the temporary answer. Choose pumps and sling back sandals but avoid the ankle straps because the straps breaks the vertical line that you want. It will make you appear shorter.
